Taken during Matriculation.

The aim: look as ridiculous as possible.
The result: success!
Note: if you haven’t seen the original shot, Google Image “Bullingdon Club” and it’ll probably be the first result.

Maudy Dukes

‘The Maudy Dukes’ is a comedy group created in Balliol College, Oxford. This is a promotional poster I made for them, with the original photograph above it. You might be able to tell that I used some similar techniques in making this poster as I did in the Sin City edit.

Sin City Photoshop

This was my attempt at converting a fairly typical posed photograph into a much more intense portrait. It took about 25 minutes to complete. The basic procedure involved:

  1. Isolating the subject from the rest of the image, desaturating (to convert to B&W) and increasing contrast.
  2. Adjusting the ‘levels’ feature until I obtained a very small tonal range with highlights and shadows in the correct places. I did this a few times on separate layers, changing the tonal range each time and then combining all of the layers. The result was a very high contrast (almost monochrome) image.
  3. Using the gradient tool to get the background colour. After this, applying the noise filter, followed by the wind filter, to get the rain effect. This step was then repeated with the rain at a different angle.
